Emory Sports Hall Of Fame Adds Three New Members
Emory University will induct three new members into its Sports
Hall of Fame The Class of 2009 includes: Liana Roman
Merz (volleyball), Jessica Levy Santucci
(women's tennis) and Diana Spock Adebulehin
(women's soccer).
The ceremony will take place on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 26,
at the Emory Conference Center. For more information, please

The Emory Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1989 by the
Association of Emory Alumni and the Department of Athletics and
Recreation. A display honoring each member is maintained in
the George Woodruff Physical Education Center on the Emory
campus. Plaques honoring inductees who were influential in
athletics on the Oxford campus are displayed in the Williams
Gymnasium at Oxford College.
This year's three additions bring the total number of inductees to
155.
The following are bullet-point sketches for Emory's Hall of Fame
Class of 2009:
Liana Roman Merz
Volleyball (1993-96)
Hometown: St. Charles, MO
** The first Emory volleyball player to earn All-America honors
with a second-team berth in 1996
** All-Region selection in 1994, 1995, 1996
** First Team All-University Athletic Association in 1996
** Second Team All-University Athletic Association in 1994 and
1995
** AVCA National Player of the Week (Oct. 14, 1996) - first
Emory player to be chosen for that honor
** Was named to a total of 15 All-Tournament Teams during her
career
** Still ranks as the school's all-time leader with 1,613 kills
** Ranks among the top ten at Emory in a total of 13 career
statistical categories including attack percentage (4th, .345) and
kills per set (6th, 3.17 kps)
** 40.5 attack percentage in 1996 established a school seasonal
record and currently stands third.
** Upon completion of her career, she held the school's top effort
for hitting percentage in a match (.750 vs. Brandeis in 1996) and
still holds four of the top 15 marks
** Upon completion of her career, she held the top two spots on
Emory's seasonal list for kills with her 511 terminations in 1996
currently tied for second
** Female recipient of Emory's McDonough Award in 1997
** During her four-year career, the Eagles won thirty or more
matches twice and compiled 111 victories along with a pair of trips
to the NCAA Tournament.
** Recipient of a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
Jessica Levy Santucci
Women's Tennis (1993-96)
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
** Served as a co-captain on the 1996 Emory women's tennis team
that captured the school's first-ever national championship
** 1996 All-American in singles
** Finished her final year with a singles mark of 24-13 and teamed
with Stefanie Leshaw for a 20-6 ledger in doubles (24 total doubles
wins). Her victory total in singles led the team and then
tied for third on the school's seasonal list (currently 9th)
** 1996 regional and national winner of the Arthur Ashe
Sportsmanship Award
** Named as the University Athletic Association MVP in 1993 and
1994
** First Team All-University Athletic Association in singles in
1994 (No. 1), 1995 (No. 1) and
1996 (No. 2)
** First Team All-University Athletic Association in doubles
in 1993 (No. 3), 1994 (No. 2) and
1996 (No. 2)
** NCAA Championship Singles Competitor in 1994, 1995 and 1996
** NCAA championship Doubles Competitor in 1994
** Named Emory Rookie of the Year in 1993
** Female Co-Recipient of Emory's Clyde Partin Award in 1995 and
1996
** Closed out her career in third place on Emory's all-time chart
with 77 wins in singles (currently 5th)
** Currently seventh on Emory's all-time list with 76 wins in
doubles
** Team won four University Athletic Association championships
during her career and compiled a 68-28 record
Diana Spock Adebulehin
Women's Soccer (1992-95)
Hometown: Durham, NC
** Outstanding defender on the Emory women's soccer team for four
years
** Second Team All-American in 1995
** Third Team All-American in 1993
** Garnered All-Region honors all four years, landing first-team
honors in 1993 and 1995 and second-team acclaim in 1992 and
1994
** Served as team co-captain during the 1994 and 1995 seasons
** First Team All-University Athletic Association in 1993, 1994 and
1995
** Second Team All-University Athletic Association in 1992
** Team MVP in 1994
** Played in a total of 73 games during her career, 72 as a
starter, and totaled nine goals and 20 assists for 38 points
** Completed her career tied for second on Emory's all-time list in
assists (currently tied for ninth)
** Helped Emory to a four-year record of 45-28-5 that included NCAA
Tournament appearances in 1993 and 1995
** With her solid play in the backfield, the program posted 36
shutouts during her career
** Female Co-Recipient of Emory's McDonough Award in 1995 and 1996
