Emory Baseball defeats Brandeis 12-5; Finishes 3-2 at UAA Tournament
The Emory University baseball team wrapped up the University
Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament with a 12-5 win over Brandeis
University on Sunday afternoon.
Emory starter Matthew Katten earned his second
victory in as many starts in the tournament, pitching five innings
of two-run baseball, allowing just six hits and a pair of
walks. The Eagles would use three pitchers over the final
three innings of the game, including a perfect eighth inning from
junior Chris Monaco.
At the plate, senior Dan Molnar went one-for-four
with a two-run home run in the second inning, that gave the Eagles
a 2-0 lead at the time. Molnar also drew a walk, his ninth of
the tournament, to match his own UAA record set last season.
Emory sophomores Kevin O’Connor and
Jonathan Reilly each added their second home runs
of the season during the contest, while Gabe
Shivers, Andrew Cohn and Ryan
Jones added a pair of hits each.
The Eagles wrapped up the shortened UAA tournament with a 3-2
record, improving to 10-8 overall this season.
Emory will return to Chappell Park to face Montclair State
University on Wednesday, March 17th at 2:30 PM.
