Emory Baseball to Play Huntingdon, Denison & Case This Week
The Emory University baseball team will look to extend its three
game winning streak this week, as the Eagles will face Huntingdon
College on Thursday, Denison University on Friday, and Case Western
Reserve University on Sunday.
The Eagles are in the middle of their first winning streak of the
season, winning a pair of games against York (Pa.) College on
Saturday, and a game against LaGrange College on Sunday, to improve
to 5-5 on the season. Emory is 4-3 at home this season.
Huntingdon College will enter Thursday's 2:00 PM contest with an
overall record of 8-4, including wins in eight of its last 10
contests. The Hawks are 2-1 in road matches this
season. The Eagles are 19-8 all time against the Hawks, but
dropped two of the three games to Huntingdon last season.
Denison University will kick off its 2010 season at 2:00 PM on
Friday against the Eagles, following a 21-19 campaign last season,
including a mark of 6-10 on the road. This will be just the
second meeting all-time between the two teams, with the Eagles
winning the previous contest 5-4 on March 1, 2003. The Big
Red are coached by former Emory assistant Mike Clark, who will be
returning to Chappell Park for the first time since taking over at
Denison.
Case Western Reserve University currently stands at 2-2 this season
with a pair of losses to Averett University, and wins over Guilford
College. The Spartans, who finished the 2009 season with a
record of 12-33, will face Transylvania University and LaGrange
College before playing Emory at 12:00 PM on Sunday. Emory is
21-4 all time against Case, but dropped two of three to the
Spartans last season. Although Case will be participating at
the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament next week with
Emory, Sunday's contest will not count towards the conference
statistics.
Emory Notes:
Emory senior Dan Molnar tied the
program's record with the 116th walk of his career on
Saturday... Molnar was later named the University Athletic
Association (UAA) Baseball Athlete of the Week, after going
eight-for 16 with three doubles, a home run, six RBIs and four runs
scored during the Eagles' five games last week... Sophomore second
baseman Kevin O'Connor hit his first career home
run during the first inning of Sunday's win against LaGrange...
O'Connor now leads the Eagles with four multiple RBI games this
season... Freshman Andrew DeYoung has a five-game
hitting streak, the second-longest by an Eagle this year, and is
one game shy of tying Gabe Shivers for the longest
this season.
