Emory Rocked by Huntingdon, 17-4

On a day when senior Dan Molnar set the new school record for career walks, little else went right for the Emory University baseball team, which fell 17-4 to Huntingdon College on Thursday.

With the Eagles trailing 1-0, Molnar picked up his record-setting 117th career walk in the third inning to pass former Eagle Allen Rigell, who set the previous mark in 2001.  The walk loaded the bases with two outs for junior Andrew Cohn, who promptly put Emory on top 2-1 with a two-RBI single.

After Huntingdon took the lead with two in the fourth and one in the fifth, Cohn would deliver again, this time with an RBI double to score Gabe Shivers.  In the sixth, the Eagles would even the game at four runs apiece with an RBI single from freshman catcher J.B. Smith.

However, the game fell apart for Emory in the top of the seventh inning, as the Hawks scored 10 runs on five hits, two errors, four walks and a hit by pitch.  Six of the 10 runs scored in the inning were unearned.

Cohn finished the day three-for four with three RBIs, and now leads the team with 11 RBIs.

Senior Brian Cournoyer took the loss for Emory, dropping to 2-1 on the year, while Huntingdon's Alex Sanford improved to 3-1 with the victory.

The loss drops Emory back below .500 to 5-6 on the season, while Huntingdon improved to 9-4 with the win.  Emory will be back in action tomorrow, hosting Denison University at 2:00 PM.
