Emory Baseball Looks to Bounce Back Against Maryville at Home
The Emory University baseball team will look to recover from its
season-opening loss, as the Eagles will host Maryville College
(Tenn.) at Chappell Park on Wednesday at 2:00 PM.
Coming off a 13-8 loss to Oglethorpe University, the Eagles will
look to rebound against another regional opponent in
Maryville. This is the first of two meetings between the
teams this season, with the second schedule for April
6th in Maryville.
Maryville split a doubleheader with Oglethorpe a week ago, and
currently stands at 1-1 on the campaign. Last year, the Scots
finished the year with a record of 22-18.
The two teams have played at least two times every season since the
inaugural season of Emory baseball in 1991. The Eagles hold a
29-20 advantage in the all-time series record, although the teams
split a pair of games last season, with each team winning a contest
on their home field. During the two games last year,
Andrew Cohn hit .375 with three runs scored, a RBI
and a stolen base, and the Eagles bullpen pitched seven and a third
scoreless innings.
Emory Notes:
Emory pitcher Brian Cournoyer was named
the UAA Athlete of the Week for baseball... The senior pitched two
and a third scoreless innings and had a pickoff in the contest...
Three players earned their first hits as an Eagle during the
season-opening game - third baseman Andrew
DeYoung, designated hitter Jonathan
Reilly, and centerfielder Gabe Shivers...
Out of the Eagles' eight hits in the opening game, only one was an
extra-base hit, a double by Cohn in the ninth inning... Emory
outfielder Dan Molnar did not walk in the first
game of the season, and remains seven free passes shy of the school
record... Wednesday's contest was originally slated for Tuesday,
but was changed due to cold weather in the Atlanta area.
