Emory Eagles
With just eight games remaining in the regular season
for Emory, the Eagles will look to extend their two-game winning
streak to improve their chances at a bid to the NCAA Division III
Tournament. Emory will begin the week with a record of 23-12
following their sweep of a home-and-home series with Covenant
College last weekend. The Eagles are 4-4 in road games this
season and 14-5 at home. Emory is led by head coach
Mike Twardoski, whose 360-160-1 career record is
good for a .692 winning percentage, the highest mark among active
UAA coaches, 15th-highest among all active NCAA Division
III coaches, and 21st-best mark among Division III
coaches all time to start the season. Assistant Coaches
Bobby Perez, Brian Clark, and
Greg McMichael will complete Coach
Twardoski’s staff for the 2011 season.
Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels
Oglethorpe will enter play on Tuesday with a record
of 16-14 overall, including an 11-8 record at home this
season. The Stormy Petrels are batting .289 as a team during
the year with an average of 5.9 runs per game, while the pitching
staff has a 4.92 ERA with a .269 opponents’ batting
average. Oglethorpe is led by eighth-year head coach Dan
Giodano, who has a record of 104-206 with the team. He is
assisted by Tim Ernst and former Emory assistant Steven Argo.
This will be the rubber game of the three-game season series
between the two teams, after the squads split a pair of games
during the season’s opening weekend. On February
12th at Chappell Park, Emory defeated Oglethorpe 14-4
behind five innings of four-hit baseball from starter Chris
Monaco and four RBIs from Andrew
Cohn. The next day at Anderson Field, the Eagles
fell 7-5 to the Stormy Petrels despite another pair of RBIs from
Cohn. The Eagles are 38-15 all time against
Oglethorpe.
Sewanee Tigers
The Tigers currently stand at 10-17 on the season,
including a 1-11 record on the road in 2011. As a team,
Sewanee is batting .320 with an average of 7.1 runs per game, while
the Tigers’ pitchers have a 6.93 ERA and are allowing
opponents to hit .287 against them. Sewanee is led by head
coach Scott Baker, who is 127-257 during his 11 seasons with the
team. He is assisted by Adrian Norris.
Emory is 33-4 all time against Sewanee, including a
22-6 win at the University of the South last season. During
last year’s game, Jonathan Reilly was
four-for-five with six RBIs and a double, while Patrick
Riebsame, Andrew Cohn and Jay Page all
hit home runs.
Emory Notes
Patrick Riebsame drove in five runs during the Eagles’ 10-3
win over Covenant College on Saturday, the most in a single game by
an Eagle this season… Riebsame has 10 multiple RBI games
this season for the Eagles, the most on the team… Brandon
Hannon has reached base safely in 24-straight games… Emory
has scored 10 or more runs in 12 games this season, going a perfect
12-0 in those games… The Eagles have won 24 games in a row
when they score in double-digits, dating back to April 14,
2009.
