Andrew Cohn Named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team
Emory University senior Andrew Cohn was named
to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, based on his
performance both on the baseball field and in the classroom during
the 2011 season.
Cohn has now garnered first team academic all-district honors in
each of his three eligible seasons, joining former Eagle Kyle
Foster (2001-03) as the only two players in the history of the
Emory baseball program to earn first team honors on three
occasions.
Cohn recently became the 10th player in school history
to reach 200 career hits, and has a career batting average of .331
with five home runs and 112 RBIs. This year, Cohn is batting
.283 with one home run and 35 runs batted in, and has played
gold-glove caliber defense at third base, committing just five
errors for a .968 fielding percentage. He was named to the
Jewish Sports Review All-America First Team last season after
receiving an honorable mention the year before, and has been named
to the all-University Athletic Association (UAA) squad in 2008,
2009 and 2010.
Cohn has a cumulative grade point average of 3.74 as an economics
major, earning Dean’s List recognition in the spring of 2008,
and has earned academic all-UAA recognition in 2009, 2010 and
2011.
By virtue of being named to the all-district first team, Cohn will
be placed on the ballot for the Capital One Academic all-America
team.
Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Emory
nominees represent the "college division" in District 3 which is
composed of NCAA Division II and III, and NAIA schools in the
states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and
Virginia.
