Cohn and O’Connor Named to Rawlings/ABCA South Region Gold Glove Team

Emory University senior third baseman Andrew Cohn and junior second baseman Kevin O’Connor were named to the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Gold Glove Team, based on their defensive play during the 2011 season.

Cohn started all 43 games at third base for Emory during the season, committing just five errors in 155 chances, good for a .968 fielding percentage.  He also helped turn 16 double plays over the course of the campaign, and started the first triple play in school history against the University of the South on April 13th.

O’Connor started all 43 games at second base for the Eagles in 2011.  He recorded a fielding percentage of 0.979 during the campaign, with 75 putouts and 116 assists, while committing just four errors.  O’Connor was part of 23 double plays turned during the year for Emory.

Cohn is the second regional gold glove third baseman in Emory history, joining Frank Pfister, who earned the award in 2008.  O’Connor becomes the second gold glove second baseman for Emory, after Joe Roth claimed the national honor during the 2007 season.

Cohn and O’Connor helped lead the Eagles to a 26-17 record and to the team’s 10th University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in 2011.
