Baseball to Play Huntingdon Twice in Weekend Series

The Emory University baseball team will look to build on the momentum created after winning the UAA Championship earlier in the week, as the Eagles will wrap up their season series with Huntingdon College with 1:00 PM games on Saturday and Sunday at Chappell Park.

Coverage
Both games will have a video webcast and live statistics.  The webcasts, available at http://go.emory.edu/Webcasts/BaseWebcast.html, require the free version of RealPlayer from real.com to view.  Live statistics for the games are available at http://www.go.emory.edu/LiveStats/Base/xlive.htm.

Emory Eagles
Emory is now 13-7 on the season, including a 5-2 record at home.  The Eagles are hitting .296 as a team this season with 7.7 runs per game, while the pitching staff has an ERA of 4.86, allowing opponents to hit for a .283 average.  Emory is led by head coach Mike Twardoski, whose 350-155-1 career record is good for a .692 winning percentage, the highest mark among active UAA coaches, 15th-highest among all active NCAA Division III coaches, and 21st-best mark among Division III coaches all time to start the season.  Assistant Coaches Bobby Perez, Brian Clark, and Greg McMichael will complete Coach Twardoski’s staff for the 2011 season.

Huntingdon Hawks
Huntingdon will enter this weekend’s games with a 14-4 record, including a 6-1 mark in road contests.  The Hawks are batting .315 as a team this season with 8.4 runs scored per game, while their pitched have an ERA of 3.06, holding opponents to a .234 batting average.  Huntingdon is led by head coach D.J. Conville, who is assisted by Joey Holcomb and Scott Mularz.

Matchup History
On March 2nd of this season, Emory came away with a 10-7 win over Huntingdon in Montgomery, AL, behind home runs from Patrick Riebsame and Kevin O’Connor, and six strong innings on the mound from starter Paul Schwendel.  Emory is 21-10 all time against Huntingdon, including a mark of 8-4 at Chappell Park.

Emory Notes
Emory closer Mike Bitanga recorded a pair of saves at the UAA Tournament, and now has five total this season through 20 team games… The five saves are already the eighth-most in a single season in the program’s history, and halfway to the program record of 10, set by Keith Meizler in 2004… Junior Jonathan Reilly saw his 11-game hitting streak come to a close on Monday against Washington University (Mo.), the season-best streak by an Eagle… The longest current hitting streak by an Emory player belongs to freshman Brandon Hannon, who has hit safely in eight straight games… Senior Andrew Cohn has driven in eight runs over his last two games, and has three games of four RBIs this season… Emory’s one-hitter against Brandeis on March 12th marked the fewest hits allowed by the Eagles in a game over the last 10 years.
