Emory Baseball to Host the Rawlings Southern Classic this Weekend
Chappell Park will once again play host to the Rawlings Southern Classic, as the Emory University baseball team will welcome in Denison University and York College (Pa.) for games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

All six games of the Rawlings Southern Classic will be webcasted online and have live statistics. Emory Eagles
Emory will enter the weekend with a 1-1 overall record, after splitting a season-opening home-and-home series against Oglethorpe University last weekend. Emory won the opening game of the series 14-4 at Chappell Park, while losing 7-5 at Oglethorpe the next day. The Eagles are led by head coach Mike Twardoski, who's 338-149-1 career record is good for a .694 winning percentage, the highest mark among active UAA coaches, 15th-highest among all active NCAA Division III coaches, and 21st-best mark among Division III coaches all time. Assistant Coaches Bobby Perez, Brian Clark, and Greg McMichael will complete Coach Twardoski's staff for the 2011 season.
York (Pa.) Spartans
York, an annual participant in the Rawlings Southern Classic, is coming off a 28-16 campaign in 2010, including a trip to the NCAA Regionals. Last season, the Spartans finished ninth among NCAA Division III teams with a 0.362 batting average, eighth with a 0.545 slugging percentage, and 17th with a 3.91 earned run average. York is led by head coach Paul Saikia, who has compiled a 521-372-5 record over his 23 years with the team. He is assisted by Mike Scappa and Mike Connolly.
Emory is 17-1 all time against York, including 11-0 and 9-4 wins during last year's Rawlings Southern Classic.
Denison Big Red
Denison finished its 2010 campaign with an overall record of 23-18. The Big Red hit .321 as a team last season, while recording a team earned run average of 6.10. Denison is led by second-year head coach Mike Clark, a former assistant at Emory University under Mike Twardoski. Clark is assisted by Sean West and Zach Huttie.
Emory stands at 2-1 all time against Denison, including an 18-10 win and a 7-5 loss last season.
Emory Notes
Emory seniors Chris Monaco and Andrew Cohn were named the University Athletic Association's (UAA) Pitcher and Hitter of the Week, respectively, for baseball... Cohn hit safely in both of Emory's games last weekend, extending his hitting streak to eight games, dating back to last season… Emory improved to 13-8 in season-opening games and to 15-6 all time in home openers… The Eagles' opening day victory was their first since the 2007 campaign… The Eagles' 14 runs on opening day were the team's most in a season-opener since the 2000 season… Emory's 17 hits in the season-opening game matched the seventh-highest single-game total in Emory history… Emory pitching held opponents to a .250 batting average through the team's first two games, while Emory batters hit .368.
