Paul Schwendel
Emory University senior Paul Schwendel struck out 11 batters and allowed just one earned run during the Eagles’ 2-0 NCAA Tournament loss to 22nd-ranked DePauw University. Schwendel surrendered just five hits and a walk over his eight innings pitched, throwing his third complete game of the season. The righty’s 11 strikeouts in the game were the second-most in a postseason game in Emory history, and marked his fourth-straight double-digit strikeout game, and fifth overall this season. He finished the year with a 6-4 record and a 3.01 ERA, and his 103 strikeouts were the fifth most in a single season in school history. In addition, Schwendel’s 231 career strikeouts are the seventh-most in the program’s annals. He helped the Eagles finish the season with an overall record of 26-14.
