Emory Golf Finishes 16th At NCAA D-III Championships

The 16th-ranked Emory University golf team finished in 16th place
out of 23 teams at the NCAA Division III Golf Championships.
The final two rounds of the 72-hole tournament were played on the
Dye Course at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Capturing first place was Oglethorpe University whose final-round
performance of 289 topped the field and left it with a final total
of 1164. The University of LaVerne finished runner-up with an
1168 while Methodist University held down the third spot at
1171.
The Eagles of Head Coach Mike Phillips, who started the last day of
action in 19th place, concluded the Championships with a
1229. Emory shot a 306 on Saturday, its second-best showing
of the tourney.
Senior Jeremy Evans, playing in his final collegiate event, paced
the Emory effort with a 16-over par 304, tying him for 44th
position out of 120 competitors. Freshman Ryan Dagerman finished
with a 305 and tied for 51st place. Senior Patrick Cohn came
through with the Eagles' best round of the afternoon with a 75 to
finish at 315. Junior John Ross (316) and sophomore Daniel
Kmetz (320) rounded out the team's competitiors.
Oglethorpe's Olafur Loftsson and LaVerne's Mitchell Fedorka tied
for medalist honors a three-under 285 with Loftsson eventually
prevailing in a playoff.
The Championships started out with 36 teams and was pared down to
23 squads and a total of 120 players following the second round.
