Emory Golf Team Member Ryan Dagerman Qualifies For U.S. Amateur
Emory University's Ryan Dagerman (Dallas, TX) has qualified for
the 2009 U.S. Amateur which will be held Aug. 24-30 at the Southern
Hills Country Club and Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa,
Oklahoma.
Dagerman, who completed his freshman year with the Eagles in
2008-09, earned a spot in this year's the 312-member field after
qualifying at the Texas Star Golf Course in Euless near his
hometown. Dagerman fired a 36-hole score of five-under 137
(67-70) and finished third out of 75 players who were competing for
a spot in the year's U.S. Amateur.
The U.S. Amateur, organized by the United States Golf Association,
is the oldest golf championship in the country with the first event
played in 1895. Many of the golf's all-time greats have been U.S.
Amateur champions including Bobby Jones (five times), Jack Nicklaus
(twice) and Tiger Woods (three times, all consecutive).
The first and second rounds of stroke play are set for Aug. 24
& 25 at Southern Hills and Cedar Ridge. The field will
then be cut to 64 players for match play after the second
round. Match play begins on Wednesday (Aug. 26) and continues
until the 36 hole final on Sunday. All match play rounds will
be conducted at Southern Hills, the site of 14 major championships
including three U.S. Championships and four PGA Championships.
The U.S. Amateur will have 10 hours of live national coverage on
The Golf Channel and NBC over the last five days of the
