The No. 14-ranked Emory University golf team concluded action at the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday, posting a 15th-place finish out of 23 teams.   Today’s action was held at the 6,837-yard, par-72 Links Course at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Penn.

The Eagles shot a team total of 298 on Friday, their third consecutive sub-300 round, and ended with a 72-hole showing of 1217 (327-295-297-298).  Also tying for 15th position was Illinois Wesleyan (322-300-301-294). No. 1-ranked Methodist withstood a charge from Guilford College and claimed the team title with a 1177, one stroke ahead of the Quakers.  Huntingdon College took home third place (1181) while St. John’s (MN) checked in at fourth place (1191).

Emory sophomore Ryan Dagerman turned in his second straight even-par 72 in the final round and finished the tournament with a seven-over par 294 (77-73-72-72) , good for a tie for 12th place out of 120 players. After shooting a 77 in tough conditions on the Hershey Country Club East Course on Tuesday, Dagerman regrouped and shot one-over par in the last 54 holes of the Championship. Dagerman’s 12th-place finish enabled him to earn second-team All-America honors.  In addition, his 294 tied with Timothy Hamm (2004) for the lowest score by an Emory play at the NCAA Championships.

Senior Shane Miller garnered a spot on All-America Third Team after shooting a one-over par 73 on Friday and finishing the Championships with a 296 (79-73-71-73), good for 17th-place tie.  Miller also rebounded strongly after a tough opening round and was a respectable two-over par in the final 54 holes.  Miller’s final score tied him with Charles Frost (1998) for the second-lowest total by an Emory player in the NCAAs.

Freshman Thomas Mally registered a final round 75 and tied for 80th place with a mark of 311.  Also competing for the Eagles were David Collura (319) and Tae Cho.

Claiming medalist honors was Tain Lee of Claremont Mudd Scripps with a seven-under 280 (69-69-72-70).  Finishing runner-up was Mitchell Fedorka of the University of La Verne at 283 (74-70-72-67).
