Emory Golf Captures Spring Invitational
The 11th-ranked Emory golf team turned in a strong
second round performance on Tuesday and used that effort in
securing first place at the Emory Spring Invitational.
The 36-hole tourney was played at the 6,863-yard, par-70 Stonemont
Golf Course at Stone Mountain, Ga.
The Eagles, who started the day three strokes off the pace, ended
up topping the 17-team field after firing a team score of 296 to
finish at 594 (298-296). Oglethorpe University finished
runner-up at 597 (299-298) while Greensboro held down the No. 3
spot with a 599 (295-304). Guilford College
(299-309—608) and Christopher Newport (310-302—612)
finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Emory freshman Johnathan Chen took home medalist honors, pacing the
89-player field with a 142 (73-69). Chen shot the
tourney’s low round of the tournament with a 69, tying his
low score of the year, on Tuesday that included a blazing
four-under 31 on the back nine. JChen finished three strokes ahead
of Oglethorpe’s Eric Quinn. Junior Ryan Dagerman earned
all-tourney honors by tying for third place with a 146
(73-73). Sophomore David Collura tied for the 12th
spot with an effort of 151 (74-77) while senior Charles Raindre
rounded out the team’s scorers with a 155 (78-77), tying for
29th.
Emory had two entries in the Invitational with the Blue Team
chalking up a ninth- place. Leading that group was junior Tae
Cho who totaled a 151 (78-73).
