Results
The 20th-ranked Emory University golf team closed
out a strong performance at the Jekyll Island Collegiate
Invitational on Sunday, finishing second out of 29 teams. The
54-hole tourney was played at the 6,620-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes
Course on Jekyll Island.
The Eagles, who started the day in fourth place, shot a final-round
288, their second-lowest score of the season, to finish at 873,
just two strokes behind No. 3-ranked Methodist University.
Illinois Wesleyan took home third place (877) while Centre College
and Greensboro tied for fourth at 880.
Senior Charles Raindre finished as Emory’s top performer,
registering a three-under 213 (70-70—73) that tied for third
place in the 150-player field. Raindre’s 54-hole effort
established a school record, bettering the previous standard of 214
set by Charles Frost at the 1998 Marine Corps Invitational at Camp
Lejeune (NC). In addition, Raindre’s 213 shattered the
school’s individual record at the Jekyll Island Invitational
which was held by Mike Lebow with a 220 in 2005. Junior Ryan
Dagerman was the next Eagle on the leaderboard with his one-under
215 (73-73-69) tying him for seventh place. Dagerman’s Sunday
outing tied for the third-lowest round of the entire field.
Freshman Johnathan Chen checked in with a final-day showing of
one-under par that left him with a two-over 218, good for a
14th-place tie. Rounding out the squad’s
scorers was senior Nick Szem at 227 (73-79-75).
Claiming medalist honors was Chris Morris of Centre College with an
outstanding score of 14-under par 202 (69-66-67). Trey Bridwell of
Maryville was runner-up with a 209.
Emory returns to action, Mar. 25-27, when it plays at the Marine
Corps Invitational.
