Emory Golf To Host Spring Invitational
The No. 11-ranked Emory University golf team returns to the
links next Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 11-12) when it serves as host
to the Emory Spring Invitational. The 36-hole tourney will be
held at the 6,863-yard, par-70 Stonemont Course at the Stone
Mountain Golf Club.
This year’s field is stockpiled with talent with three of the
top four and five of the top 10 teams in the Division III ranks
vying for the title. All totaled 15 schools and 17 teams will
comprise this year’s field including No. 1-ranked Guilford,
No. 2 Methodist, No. 4 and defending champion Greensboro, No. 8
Centre and No. 9 Oglethorpe.
At last year’s Invitational, which was contested at
Stonemont, Emory posted a 10th-place finish out of 17 teams.
The Pride of Greensboro won the team crown with a four-stroke
margin over runner-up Methodist. Chris Morris of Centre
College came away with medalist honors after getting the better of
Peter Latimer of Guilford on the first playoff hole.
In their most recent outing, the Eagles team closed out its
participation at the Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Camp
Lejuene’s (NC) Paradise Point Golf Club by tying for fifth
place out of 16 teams in the Scarlet Division. Pacing the
team’s effort was junior Ryan Dagerman who carded rounds of
69, 74, and 72 on the par-70 Scarlet Course and the par-72 Gold
Course to finish at four-over par 216, good for an
11th-place tie in the 80-player field.
