Emory Golf Team Earns GCAA Honor
The 2010-11 Emory golf squad has been recognized by the Golf
Coaches Association of America for its performance in the classroom
by being named as one of 23 Division III programs to earn
All-Academic Team recognition.
To be eligible for the award, a team must have compiled a
grade-point average of 3.00 or better during the school year.
The Eagles captured the University Athletic Association
Championships and turned in an impressive eighth-place finish at
the NCAA Division III Championships, the best showing by Emory
since 2006. Emory averaged 297.4 strokes per round during the
campaign, the second-best mark in school annals. Finally, the
Eagles established team scoring records for three tournaments
– The UAA Championships, Jekyll Island Invitational and the
NCAA Division III Championships.
Playing a key role in helping Emory land its spot on the
All-Academic Team was the duo of Ryan Dagerman and
Nick Szem, both of whom were tabbed to the
Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team after participating
in at least 70 percent of the team’s competitive rounds,
posting a stroke average of under 78.0 and maintaining a
cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better.
A total of 103 programs hailing from the three divisions of the
NCAA, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the
National Junior College Athletic Association were represented on
the All-Academic Team.
