Emory Golf Earns GCAA Team Academic Award

Emory Golf Earns GCAA Team Academic Award

The 2016-17 Emory golf squad has been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America for its performance in the classroom by being named as one of 36 Division III programs to earn the All-Academic Team Award.

To be eligible for the award, a team must have compiled a grade-point average of 3.00 or better during the school year. Emory finished with a team GPA of 3.44, just shy of the 3.50 threshold for capturing President's Special Recognition, with seven D-III programs earning that distinction.

The Eagles captured the University Athletic Association Championships and turned in a 12th-place finish at the NCAA D-III Championships.  Emory averaged a school-seasonal record of 296.8 strokes per round, topping the previous standard of 297.4 set by the 2010-11 team.  In addition, the squad posted six top-five finishes during the season including a first-place effort at the Callaway Gardens Invitational.

Playing a key role in helping Emory land its spot on the All-Academic Team was junior Keenan Hickton, who was tabbed to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team.  In addition, Hickton, along with five of his teammates – Noah Apter, Stefano Butti, Matt Csillag, Sam Nichamin and Connor Yakubov were named to the University Athletic Association Spring All-Academic Team.

A total of 194 programs hailing from the three divisions of the NCAA, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the National Junior College Athletic Association were represented on the All-Academic Team.
