Emory Golf Finishes Runner-Up At Royal Lakes-Oglethorpe Invitational

The No. 3-ranked Emory golf team closed out its participation at the Royal Lakes-Oglethorpe Fall Invitational on Sunday.  The 36-hole event was played at the 6,856-yard, par-72 Royal Lakes Golf Club in nearby Flowery Branch.

Emory posted a second-place finish out of 18 teams, registering a final-round score of even-par 288 to finish at seven-over par 583, just four shots off the pace from Greensboro College's No. 1 mark of 579 (284—295). Carnegie Mellon captured third place with a 585 (296-285) while North Carolina Wesleyan was fourth with an effort of 586 (283-303).

Sophomore Sam Galloway shot the Eagles' best score of the day, carding a brilliant five-under 67 that represented a career best while tying the program's record for the fourth-best score for a round. Galloway tallied three birdies on the front nine and eagled the par-five 18th hole.  Galloway closed out the Invitational with a four-under par 140, tying for third place in the 102-player field and ranking in a fourth-place tie all-time at Emory for a two-round tournament. By virtue of his finish, Galloway earned a spot on the All-Invitational Team.

Sophomore Matt Organisak checked in with an even-par 72 on the final day of play, leaving him at one-under par 143 and tying for ninth place on the leader board.  Junior Connor Yakubov and senior Keenan Hickton rounded out the team's scorers with a 74 and 75, respectively. Hickton tied for 31st at 149 while Yakubov posted a 151 which slotted him 51st.  Freshman Eric Yiu was part of the team contingent and shot a 167 over the two rounds.

Junior Noah Apter, playing as an individual, totaled a two-over par 74 that left him at one-under 143, tying Organisak and a host of others for ninth place. Other Emory individuals included senior Sean Murphy (74-78—152) and junior Stefano Butti (79-79—158).

Emory returns to action, Oct. 15-17, when it competes at the 54-hole Golfweek DIII Invitational in San Destin, Florida.
