Austin Claunch Named UAA Basketball Player Of The Week

Emory University sophomore Austin Claunch (Cypress, TX) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as Basketball Player of the Week after helping the Eagles to a three-game record of 2-1.  It marks the first time in his career that he has been selected for the honor.

The 5-foot-9 Claunch paced the team scoring in two of the three contests while helping the team boost its overall record to 3-1.  He tied for second on the team with 18 points, hitting six-of-11 from the floor and five-of-six from the line, in a 91-82 triumph over Huntingdon College (Nov. 24).  He then posted a team-high 18 points and registered five assists and five steals in a hard-fought 75-64 setback against Maryville (Nov. 28) in the opening game of the GABCA Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.  He closed out the weekend with a team-best 18 points and seven assists and two steals in helping Emory to a 95-81 win against LaGrange College on Sunday.

All totaled, he averaged a team-high 17.7 points, and 5.0 assists in the three contests.  In addition, he converted a keen 63.6 percent of his field goal attempts (21-of-33) and eight-of-10 from the charity stripe.

He has scored in double figures in all four of Emory's games to date and has six in his career.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 2, when they make their home debut against LaGrange College in a 7:00 p.m. tip.
