Emory sophomore Alex Gulotta came off the bench to score a career-high tying 15 points in helping Emory to its third straight win Wednesday evening at Piedmont College.  The Eagles raised their overall record to 10-4 following a 70-60 triumph over the Lions who slipped to 8-6.  Emory's record is the program's best 14-game start since the 1997-98 season when that club also started 10-4.

Gulotta scored 10 of his game total in the decisive second half, helping Emory to a 43-30 scoring advantage, hitting three-of-five three-point field goals during the final 20 minutes of action.  For the game, he sank five-of-10 from the floor including four-of-seven from beyond the arc.  Senior Chad Hixon was the team's other double-figure scorer with 10 points while also grabbing six rebounds.

For the game, the Eagles hit 40.6 percent from the floor (26-of-64) while Piedmont hit on 38.2 percent (21-of-55) .  Emory enjoyed a decided edge in three-point shooting, sinking 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from distance compared to the Lions' 10 percent showing (2-of-20).  Head Coach Jason Zimmerman saw his team knock down seven-of-14 from three-point range in the second stanza while Piedmont went 0-of-8.

The Eagles trailed by a 38-37 margin with 15:11 left in the contest before Gulotta hit three consecutive treys to key a 9-2 run that gave them a 46-40 advantage. After the Lions cut the deficit to four points, a three-pointer by sophomore guard Austin Claunch pushed the visitor's lead to seven points, 51-44, with 10:18 on the clock.  Claunch turned in a solid second half, scoring all nine of his points in that stretch while finishing the game with eight assists.

Piedmont stayed within striking distance and trailed by a 55-50 margin with 6:53 remaining before Emory registered a 10-2 spurt, highlighted by three-pointers by freshman Michael Friedberg and senior Anthony Fernandez to give it an insurmountable 65-52 cushion with 3:23 left in the game.

The Eagles return to action on Friday (Jan. 22) when they play at New York University.
