Austin Claunch Named To D3Hoops.Com Team Of The Week

Emory University junior Austin Claunch (Cypress, TX) continues to be recognized for his outstanding play last weekend in the Eagles’ wins over Case Western and Carnegie Mellon, earning a spot the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.  It is the first time in his career that he has been selected for the honor.

The 5-foot-9 Claunch helped direct Emory to a 97-73 decision over Case on Friday, scoring 17 points and dishing out 11 assists, tying the school’s second-highest individual game total.  In an 88-71 verdict over CMU, Claunch exploded for 25 points, tying his second-highest career total, and chalked up 10 assists.  Over the weekend, he averaged team highs in points (21.0 ppg), steals (3.5 spg) and minutes (35.5 mpg) while shooting 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the floor.  His double digits in assists in both games mark the first time in school history that an Emory player had come up back-to-back efforts of double figures in that category.

Claunch becomes just the fourth Emory player to earn D3hoops.com Team of the Week recognition.  He joins Dan Smith (2006-07), Spiros Ferderigos (2007-08) and Anthony Fernandez (2007-08) as other Eagles who have landed a spot on that team.

Emory 13-3 on the year and tied for first place in the University Athletic Association with a 4-1 mark, returns to action this Friday and Sunday (Jan. 28 & 30) with road games at Brandeis and New York University.
