Austin Claunch Named To D3hoops.com Team Of The Week For Second Time This Season
For the second time in the past three weeks Emory University junior Austin Claunch (Cypress, TX) has earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. It is the second time in his career that he has been selected for the honor.
Claunch averaged 17.5 points and 10.0 assists in victories over Brandeis and NYU. In Friday's 85-70 win over the Judges of Brandeis, Claunch registered 16 points with eight assists and two steals. In a 93-85 triumph over NYU on Sunday, he logged all 40 minutes and tied for team scoring honors with 19 points, hitting six-of-nine from the floor, including all three of his three-point field goal attempts, and converting all four of his free throw opportunities. He also dished out 12 assists, tying the school record in that category, and paced the team with six rebounds. In the two games, he shot 52.4 percent from the floor (11-of-21), including 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from beyond the arc, and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe (8-of-9).
Claunch is just one of four Emory players to earn D3hoops.com Team of the Week recognition. He joins Dan Smith (2006-07), Spiros Ferderigos (2007-08) and Anthony Fernandez (2007-08) as other Eagles who have landed a spot on that team.
Emory stands 16-4 on the year and its 7-2 mark in the University Athletic Association is good for second place, one game behind Rochester. The Eagles return to action this Friday and Sunday with home games against Washington University and the University of Chicago.
The Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, and in its 14th season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week.
