Alex Greven Named UAA Basketball Co-Player Of The Week
Emory University sophomore Alex Greven (Winston-Salem, NC) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as Basketball Co-Player of the Week after helping the Eagles to a win over Methodist University in the squad’s lone action of the week. He shares the award with Matt Johnson of the University of Chicago. It marks the first time in his career that he has been selected for the honor.
The 6-foot-3 Greven poured in a career-high 31 points in helping
Emory to the 88-82 win over the Monarchs on Saturday. He was
successful on 12-of-24 field goal attempts, including
three-of-seven from three-point range, and sank four-of-six from
the charity stripe en route to his fifth double-figure scoring game
of the year and fourth of 20 or more points. Greven also
contributed on the defensive end, coming up with a career-high four
steals as the Eagles ran their record to 6-0, the program’s
first such start since the 2002-03 campaign. Greven scored 17
of his 31 points in the second half of action including a pair of
pressure-packed free throws with 15 seconds left that gave Emory an
86-82 lead. His point production marked the first time that
an Emory player scored 30 or more points since Dec. 15, 2007, when
Spiros Ferderigos lit up Oglethorpe for 32 in a 106-89 victory
Through six games, Greven stands as the team's top scorer (20.5
ppg).
Emory, ranked 24th in this week’s D3 Hoops.com
Poll, visits Covenant College on Tuesday (Dec. 7).
