Emory's Julien Williams Named UAA Basketball Co-Player Of The Week
Emory University senior Julien Williams (Potomac, MD) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as Basketball Co-Player of the Week after helping the Eagles to wins over Washington University and the University of Chicago. He shares the award with Andy Stein of New York University. It marks the first time in his career that he has been selected for the honor.
The 6-foot-2 Williams averaged 18.5 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds in helping the team raise its overall record to 18-4 (second highest win total in school history), 9-2 in league play which is good for second place, one game behind Rochester. Over the two games, he connected on 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the floor, and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the foul line.
In Friday's 92-67 triumph over WU, Williams tied for team scoring honors with 18 points, hitting seven-of-eight from the floor including all three of his three-point field goal attempts. In addition, he pulled down three rebounds and came up with a pair of steals. In the team's 91-87 overtime win over Chicago, Williams came up with his first double-double of the year and second of his career with 19 points (second high on the squad) and a game-high 13 rebounds, his second-highest career effort. Williams sank six-of-nine from the floor and seven-of-10 from the charity stripe in recording his seventh double-figure scoring performance of the season.
A starter in all 22 games, Williams is averaging 8.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per stint. His 52.4 percent mark (66-of-126) from the floor leads the team and ranks eighth among UAA players.
Emory, winners of its last five games, returns to action on Friday evening (Feb. 19) when it plays at Case Western Reserve University.
