Emory Basketball Weighs In From Ireland
Location: Somewhere in the Irish
countryside
Date: August 18th, 2011
Time: 3:30 PM
Team morale is in no way bad, but it is also nowhere near
extraordinary. Everybody seems to be in a state of content as we
traverse the winding roads of Ireland’s beautiful landscape.
The day started off very early with a 6 AM wake-up call followed by
a quick breakfast that had us swallowing our food as we boarded the
bus not a minute after 6:15 AM. Two hours later and half the team
was on a beach stripping down to their bottom layer and
subsequently sprinting towards the frigid ocean. A couple players
(seniors Austin Claunch, Justin Resnick, Chris Cohen along with
juniors Nash Oh and assistant Christopher Murphy) and one coach
decided to forgo the icy water in order to stay dry and as one Nash
Oh put it, “there’s no way I am getting in the water
and messing up my hair for no reason.” To say the least, the
players and head coach that did get in the water were very
disappointed with the lack of adventureness their teammates
showed.
After a quick swim the team split up and headed off to explore the
small coastal town and engage in the local cuisine. After lunch it
was back on the bus and off to the Cliffs
of Moher, a true wonder to behold. Spending around forty-five
minutes at the cliffs, there wasn’t one person on the team
who did not return to the bus gawking at what they had just seen.
An image that will undoubtedly last both of these bloggers a
lifetime, the cliffs are a must see for all you travelers out
there. However, as is routine, soon after stopping we were back on
the bus once more on the way to our final destination, Galway.

We arrived in Galway at approximately 4:30 PM this afternoon.
After a short nap the team went out to explore the city.
Located on the West Coast of Ireland and known as
Ireland’s “Cultural Heart,” the city was a
pleasant surprise to all of us. After sometime in the city we
joined the coaching staff, bus driver and tour guide for a final
meal as a team in Ireland. Dinner was very entertaining as we
all reminisced about our experiences thus far and the goods things
to come in the upcoming school year and basketball
season.
As I type this final “in Ireland,” blog entry I can
hear the steady knock of junior Michael Friedberg (always one to
get excited for a night on the town) on my door as he urges me to
hurry up so we can experience the Irish nightlife one last time.
And so I wrap up this entry and the next time you hear from
me I will be back state side on my way to a connecting flight in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As they say in Irish, Slán
go fóill!

Time: 2:55 PM
We just landed after a near seven-hour flight that departed from
the Dublin International Airport. In less than four hours we will
be back in Atlanta and back to the normal routine of
things.
I think this goes for the whole team when I say this was without
question one of the most amazing experiences of our young lives. I
think we all believe that nothing but beneficial experiences came
from the journey to the Emerald Island and in the coming months, as
a basketball team, we look to build on the positive doings that
occurred overseas in the last week. Thank you to everybody that
followed this blog and look for one final entry in the coming
days.
