Alex Greven Named To Capital One Academic All-District Team

Emory University senior Alex Greven (Winston-Salem, NC), a key member of the men's basketball squad, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team.  To be eligible, a nominee must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at his/her current institution, carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and be a starter or key reserve.

Emory is part of District 5 which is comprised of all Division III schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Greven will now move on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America recognition.

Greven majors in neuroscience and behavioral biology and posts a 3.78 grade-point average.  He has enjoyed a fine season in helping the Eagles to an overall record of 13-4, drawing starting assignments in all 17 contests and ranking second on the team and third among University Athletic Association players in scoring with a 16.2 points-per-game average.   He has scored in double figures on 16 occasions and has produced five contests of 20 or more points.  The team leader with 36 three-point field goals, he has knocked treys in his last 31 games, the fourth-longest streak in school history.   He has connected on 36.0 percent (36-of-100) of his triple tries while converting 82.7 percent (62-of-75) of his free throw opportunities with that mark ranking fifth on the league ladder.   Earlier in the season, he reached the 1,000-career point plateau and heads into a Friday (Feb. 1) evening contest at Brandeis as Emory's 10th all-time leading scorer with 1,100 points.

It is the third straight year that Greven has earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Team. Voting is conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
