Alex Foster, a four-year member of the Emory basketball program, will continue his playing career this fall when he competes overseas.
Foster, who completed his collegiate career this past March, will take his skills to Germany where he has signed a contract to play for the Cologne Rhein Stars of the ProA 2. Basketball Bundesliga, regarded as the second highest professional league in the country. Serving as the Stars' coach is Arne Woltman, who also assists with the German national team.
Foster played in a school-record tying 108 games during his Emory career, etching himself into the school record books in a number of categories. A 2014-15 First Team All-American as selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the 6-foot-8 Foster paced the University Athletic Association in scoring with a 20.1 points-per-game average, good for the No. 3 position on the program's seasonal list. Foster helped the team to a final won-lost mark of 22-6 that included a conference crown and a Round of 16 spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Foster produced 26 double-figure contests and recorded 15 outings of 20 or more points. Tabbed as the UAA Player of the Year, Foster was chosen as the conference's player of the week on four occasions and was a D3hoops.com Team of the Week honoree twice. Career-wise, he stands 12th in scoring at Emory with 1,097 points and eighth with 140 three-point field goals.
