Emory Wins Sonny Carter Invitational; Graetz Named MVP
Based on tiebreakers, the Emory University men's soccer team
record of 1-1-0 during the Sonny Carter Invitational was good
enough to clinch the tournament's cup for the second-consecutive
season, and the Eagles' Jake Graetz was named the
Most Valuable Player of the tournament, heading the list of 12
all-tournament team players.
Emory earned the tournament title based on tiebreakers, after all
four teams finished with a 1-1-0 record. The Eagles won the
tournament based on their plus-four goal differential, the highest
in the tournament. Oglethorpe University finished second, and
Southern Wesleyan University third, based on Oglethorpe's
head-to-head win over the Warriors. The University of the
Ozarks finished fourth.
Graetz, who finished the tournament tied for the most goals and
points among all participants, headlined five Emory players who
were named to the all-tournament team. Joining Graetz on the
team for Emory were junior midfielder Christopher
Howie, freshman midfielder David Langton,
sophomore defender Nathan McKeever, and freshman
defender Andrew Natalino.
