Emory Men’s Soccer Edges Covenant 1-0

Emory University's Trenton Spindler played shutout soccer in goal, and junior Michael Scannapieco scored the difference-maker, as the Eagles earned a highly-contested 1-0 road victory over Covenant College on Wednesday afternoon.

Spindler turned in another strong performance in goal, making eight saves en route to his seventh victory of the season.  The shutout was the sophomore's second of the season, lowering his goals against average to 0.56 in 2009.

Scannapieco scored the lone goal of the contest unassisted, his first of the season, in the 74th minute of play.  The junior becomes the 12th-different Eagle to score a goal this season, and the sixth-different Emory player to notch a game-winner.

Emory improved to 7-1-0 on the season, including a perfect 6-0-0 in road matches, while the Scots fell to 3-3-1 with the loss.  Emory remained undefeated against Division III teams, and has won seven contests in a row after losing its opening match of the season.

The Eagles will look to continue their momentum on Sunday, October 4th, as the team will begin conference play against Washington University at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
