Spindler Earns UAA Athlete of the Week Honor for Mens Soccer
Emory University junior goalkeeper Trenton
Spindler was named the University Athletic Association
(UAA) Defensive Athlete of the Week, based on his performance over
two Emory games last week.
Spindler was named the Most Valuable Player of the Shellenberger
Classic, leading the team to a tournament victory. Spindler
did not allow a goal in his 153:40 between the pipes, making nine
saves and earning a pair of victories over two games. The
junior played 63 minutes and 40 seconds of the Eagles’ 4-0
victory over Randolph College on Saturday, making three saves
before leaving halfway through the second half with the game in
hand. Facing host school and regionally-ranked Lynchburg
College on Sunday, Spindler made six saves in a 1-0 victory,
earning his third complete game shutout in five games this
season. He has allowed just one goal this season in over 423
minutes, good for a 0.21 goals against average. In addition,
he has earned the victory in all five Emory games this season,
making 23 saves thus far.
Spindler becomes the second Emory defensive player in as many weeks
this season to be recognized as the UAA’s Soccer Defensive
Athlete of the Week, after sophomore Andrew
Natalino earned the honor last week. It was the
third time over his career that Spindler has earned the honor,
after being named the UAA’s Athlete of the Week on September
14th and November 9th last year.
Spindler’s performance has helped the Eagles start their 2010
campaign with a perfect 5-0-0 record. The Eagles will
continue a four-game road trip this weekend, taking on Methodist
University and Averett University in Fayetteville, NC on Saturday
and Sunday.
