Emory Mens Soccer Team Heads to Costa Rica for Preseason Training
The veterans on the Emory University men’s soccer team
will get a jump start to their 2010 campaign, as the returning
players will travel to Costa Rica for nine days of training,
sight-seeing, and even a community service project.
“I think it is going to be a great trip to bond our team and
give us a head start on the season,” said Emory head coach
Sonny Travis. “It’s the perfect
time to play four games, experiment, give guys a lot of playing
time, and then throw in some of the things that we want to mix in
tactically during the season.”
Throughout the trip, Emory will be lodged in three different resort
hotels. In addition, Emory will be playing games against a
high-level of competition, facing either first or second division
professional squads.
The Eagles will depart for San Jose, Costa Rica, on Saturday,
August 7th. While in the country’s capital
city, the team will play a friendly match against Brujas, in
addition to being treated to a tour of the city, and a cultural
presentation with Costa Rican dances and music. Emory players
will also take part in a community service project while in San
Jose, as the team will be visiting a children’s community
center, which cares for and educates 200 low-income children 12 and
under.
Following their time in the capital city, the Eagles will spend the
next three days at the beaches of Santa Cruz. The team will
have a training session on the beach before taking part in their
second friendly match of the trip, this one against
Cartagena.
The Eagles will next experience the Costa Rican rainforest in San
Carlos Valley. While there, players will have the option to
partake in a zip-line tour of the rainforest, soak in hot water
springs, and go whitewater rafting. In addition, they will
play their third friendly game of the trip, facing San Carlos.
Wrapping up the trip, the Eagles will return to San Jose to play
Barrio Mexico, before returning to Atlanta the next day, August
14th.
Make sure to check EmoryAthletics.com throughout the trip, as we
will be posting periodic updates and journal entries with pictures
from players on the trip.
