Emory Mens Soccer Picked to Finish Second in the UAA
The Emory University men's soccer team was selected to finish
second in the University Athletic Association (UAA), according to
the conference's preseason coaches' poll.
Despite losing 11 seniors prior to the start of the 2009 season,
the Eagles were still able to compile a record of 12-4-2, including
a 2-3-2 record in UAA matches, good for a fifth-place finish in the
conference. In 2010, the Eagles are slated to return all of
their starters from the previous season, including all-UAA honorees
Jake Graetz, Nathan McKeever,
Christopher Howie and Zach
Samuels.
The University of Rochester, which won the UAA Championship with a
14-2-3 overall record last season and was ranked sixth in the NSCAA
Pre-Season Poll, was picked to finish first in the UAA with five of
the eight first place votes. Tied with Emory for second in
the UAA coaches' poll were Carnegie Mellon University (ranked
11th in the Division III preseason poll and the
recipient of two UAA first place votes) and Washington University
(Mo.). The University of Chicago, which also received a
first-place vote, was selected to finish fifth, followed by Case
Western Reserve University, New York University and Brandeis
University.
The Eagles will start their regular season on September
1st against Covenant College at 7:30 PM at the Woodruff
Physical Education Center.
