Emory University Eagles
Emory will enter the game with an overall record of 8-0-0,
including a 4-0-0 mark in home matches. The Eagles will be
wrapping up a brief two-game home stand on Saturday, following a
5-0 win at home against Piedmont College on Wednesday night.
The Eagles are led by head coach Sonny Travis, who
is 52-9-2 during his four seasons with Emory.
Greensboro College Pride
The Pride currently stand at 3-4-1 on the season, including a
mark of 1-1-1 in away games. Greensboro is coming off
back-to-back wins, with a 4-3 overtime win against Chowan
University last Saturday, and a 5-0 win over Warren Wilson College
on Wednesday. The Pride are coached by Giovanni Vlahos, who
is in his second year with the squad.
Matchup History
The two teams will be facing each other for the
19th-consecutive season and 22nd time overall. Of
the previous 22 meetings, at least one of the teams has been ranked
nationally 14 times, and both teams have been ranked in four of the
matchups. The Pride initially dominated the matchup, winning
seven of the first eight matches, but more recently, the Eagles
have won four-straight and six of the last seven over
Greensboro. Overall, Emory is 9-12 all-time against the
Pride. Emory and Greensboro have met three times in the NCAA
Tournament, with the Pride winning each of the three postseason
games. There have been five overtime matches between the
teams, with Greensboro holding a 3-2-0 advantage.
Perhaps the most meaningful match of the series for the Eagles came
during the 1998 season, when Emory hosted Greensboro on October
13th. With the Eagles trailing 4-2 with just 23 minutes
remaining, All-American Ahmed Mohyledin scored two goals (including
the game winner with less than two minutes remaining) and assisted
on another to give Emory its first victory over the Pride in five
seasons. Mohyeldin finished the 5-4 win with four goals and
one assist.
Last season in Greensboro, the Eagles defeated the Pride 4-0, with
goals from Nico Dalton, Jake Graetz and Christopher Howie.
Emory's Trenton Spindler played over 68
shutout minutes in goal, making one save, and the Emory defense
allowed just seven total shots, only two of which were on
goal.
Emory Notes
The Eagles recorded their sixth-consecutive shutout on
Wednesday night, matching the program record originally set in
1984… Emory has also matched a program-best with 16
different goal scorers this season… With a win on Saturday,
the Eagles can match a program record with their ninth win in the
month of September… Emory is 164-38-7 during the month of
September since 1985, good for an .801 winning percentage…
Emory has started 8-0-0 for the eighth time in school history, and
the team has made the NCAA Tournament in five of those seven
previous seasons.
