Emory Men’s Soccer Hits the Road for the First Time in 2010

The Emory University men’s soccer team will put its perfect record to the test this weekend, taking to the road for the first time this season to face Randolph College and Lynchburg College as part of the Shellenberger Memorial Classic in Lynchburg, VA.

Emory will face Randolph College at 1:30 PM on Saturday, September 11th, and host-school Lynchburg College on Sunday, September 12th at 11:00 AM.

Emory University Eagles
Emory has opened its 2010 season with three-consecutive wins, including a 2-0-0 record for a tournament win at the Sonny Carter Invitational last weekend.  Emory sophomore defender Andrew Natalino was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, and senior co-captain Jake Graetz scored the game-winning goal in both Emory victories.  Emory’s fast start has allowed the Eagles to rise to the seventh-ranked team in the region, according to the latest NSCAA poll.  The Eagles, who are led by head coach Sonny Travis, went 9-2-0 in road and neutral games last season.

Randolph College WildCats
Randolph College currently stands at 2-2-0 in 2010, including a 5-0 victory over Ferrum College in its last outing.  The WildCats went 6-9-4 last season, including a 3-7-1 mark in road and neutral matches.  This season, Randolph is 0-2-0 in matches held on neutral sites.  The WildCats are led by head coach Bryan Waggoner.

Lynchburg College Hornets
After losing their season-opening match to Methodist University, Lynchburg College has bounced back with two-straight victories to improve to 2-1-0 in 2010.  The Hornets are the fourth-ranked team in the South Atlantic Region in the latest NSCAA poll.  Lynchburg is 0-1-0 at home so far this season, after going 9-1-1 at home and 17-2-3 overall last season.  The Hornets are led by head coach Chris Yeager, who was an assistant coach under Emory’s Sonny Travis at Virginia Wesleyan College.

Matchup Histories
Saturday’s game will be the first meeting between Emory and Randolph.  The Eagles have previously faced Lynchburg five times, going 4-1-0.  In the last contest, Emory bested Lynchburg 3-0 on September 8, 2007, but senior Michael Scannapieco was the only current Eagle to see action in that game.
