Senior Cody Gardiner has been named the University Athletic Association Men's Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office late Tuesday afternoon. It marks the first career weekly honor for the fourth-year defender.
Gardiner was named the Sonny Carter Invitational Tournament MVP after recording the game-winning goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over Pacific Lutheran to help Emory clinch the tournament title. Gardiner also anchored the Eagles' defensive unit that allowed just three shots on goal total across the two games of the holiday tournament as Emory posted back-to-back shutouts to begin the season.
Emory returns to the pitch this weekend with the Washington & Lee Invitational in Lexington, VA. The Eagles will face the 24th-ranked Generals on Saturday before rounding out the two-day tournament with Randolph College on Sunday.
