Emory Mens Swimming & Diving Finishes Third at the NCAA DIII Championships
The Emory University men’s swimming and diving team capped
off another impressive season on Saturday with a third-place finish
at the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships.
The finish marks the 10th top-three finish for the Emory
men at the NCAA Championships, and the team’s sixth
third-place finish. Emory has now recorded 11-consecutive
top-four finishes in the Nation.
Emory finished the meet with 259.5 points, finishing close to
second-place Denison University, which scored 272 points during the
meet. Kenyon College ran away with the National Championship,
scoring a total of 696 points.
Sophomore Paul Weinstein started the scoring on
the final day for the Eagles, finished fourth in the 1,650-yard
freestyle, with a time of 15:42.42. It marked the
second-straight year Weinstein has earned an all-America honor in
the event.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, freshman Peter
O’Brien set a school-record with a time of 2:02.44,
finishing 11th overall to earn an all-America honorable
mention. Senior Kevin Yamada finished
13th to earn an honorable mention as well.
The Eagles rounded out the final day of competition with an
11th-place finish from their 400-yard freestyle relay
team of Justin Leemis, Dustin
Frissell, Matt Spooner and Tom
DiMarco.
The Emory men totaled seven all-America honors and 12 all-America
honorable mentions in individual events during the four-day meet,
while notching three all-America honors and two honorable mentions
in relay events.
Saturday also marks the end of a number of strong Emory
careers. Seniors and all-Americans Tom
DiMarco, Kevin Yamada, John
Petroff all competed for the final time as Eagles during
the championship meet.
The meet concludes the 2009-10 season for the Emory University
men’s swimming and diving team.
