Yamada Named UAA Athlete of the Week
Emory University senior swimmer Kevin Yamada
was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the
Week for men' swimming and diving, following his performance at the
Emory Fall Invitational last weekend.
Yamada was part of two first-place finishes and four top-four
performances at the Emory Fall Invitational. Yamada opened
the meet with a first-place finish among 96 swimmers in the
200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.06. The senior
notched his second first-place finish of the meet as the
breaststroke leg of the Eagles' 400-yard medley relay team, which
recorded a mark of 3:30.51. Yamada also finished third out of
59 competitors in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.56 seconds), fourth
out of 42 swimmers in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.37) and
11th out of 81 participants in the 100-yard butterfly
(53.69 seconds).
Yamada scored 29.5 of the Eagles' 376.5 points during the meet,
helping the squad to a first-place finish out of seven teams.
Yamada becomes the fifth Emory men's swimmer this weekend to be
named a conference athlete of the week. Previously, seniors
Tom DiMarco and John Petroff,
junior Mark Bernstein and freshman Peter
O'Brien have all received the honor.
Emory will return to action on Thursday, December 3rd at
the Miami (Ohio) Invitational.
