Eagles Sweep the College of Charleston at Home

The Emory University swimming and diving teams each picked up a win at home on Saturday, as the Eagles' men's and women's squads defeated the Division I College of Charleston in dual meet action.

The fourth-ranked Emory men earned a 181.5 - 112.50 win over the Cougars, while the top-ranked Emory women claimed a 177-104 victory over their counterparts.  Emory's men improved to 3-2 on the season with the win, while the women raised their record to 4-2.  The College of Charleston men fell to 2-5 with the loss, while the women dropped to 4-8.

Two members of the Emory men's squad recorded NCAA ‘B' cut times during the meet.  Senior Kevin Yamada finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.26 seconds, and freshman Peter O'Brien won the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:08.02.  The Eagles had a representative finish first in 12 of the 16 men's events.

The Emory women saw four of its members record provisional qualifying marks in individual events.  In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Claire Pavlak finished first with a ‘B' cut time of 24.33 seconds, while senior Ruth Westby finished close behind with a provisional qualifying time of 24.35 seconds.  In the distance events, sophomore Anne Culpepper recorded a ‘B' cut time of 5:06.74 in the 500-yard freestyle, while freshman Theresa Gallagher won the 400-yard individual medley with a provisional time of 4:36.87.

The Eagles also saw their 400-yard freestyle relay team finish first with a provisional qualifying time of 3:33.94.  The Emory women finished first in all 16 events
