2007-08 Men's Tennis Season Recap

The 2007-08 edition of the Emory men's tennis team maintained the Eagles' reputation as one of the premier Division III programs in the nation, advancing to the national championship match for the third straight year. And while the Eagles fell short in their bid to bring home the national title back to Atlanta, Head Coach John Browning and his squad turned in an outstanding season with many highlights.

For the record, the squad finished with a 17-9 record and a No. 2 national ranking. Emory advanced to at least the NCAA quarterfinals for the 17th consecutive year and the 2007-08 campaign represented the seventh straight campaign that it had advanced to the semifinals or beyond.  The Eagles have been second in 2002, 2007 and 2008, won national titles in 2003 and 2006 and finished third in 2004 and 2005.

Along the way, Emory claimed its 19th straight UAA title, edging No. 2 Washington University, 6-2, in the title match. Emory saw five of its players bring home All-UAA honors including Michael Goodwin who was tabbed as the league's MVP. Junior Mark Boren and sophomore Oliver Lopp were garnered first-team acclaim as singles players while all three Emory doubles teams earned first-team recognition.

Goodwin, who battled his way to a 13-9 dual ledger, earned All-America recognition for the second straight season in both singles and doubles.  Goodwin, along with Oliver Lopp, captured the doubles crown at the ITA Regional Championships. The Rockville, Maryland, native also garnered All-America kudos in singles.

Mark Boren landed All-America honors after winning the singles title at the ITA Regional Championships.  Boren, who held down the No. 2 singles post, finished the season with a 17-8 won-lost record.
