Emory's Colin Egan Named UAA Player of the Week
Sophomore Colin Egan (Chapel Hill, NC) has been
selected as the University Athletic Association Tennis Player of
the Week after helping the Eagles to a pair of wins in NCAA
Tournament action. It is the second time this year that he has been
selected for the honor.
Egan went undefeated in both singles and doubles play in helping
the Eagles advance to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis
Championships. Egan recorded a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles
against Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday and teamed with Chris
Jordan for the first time this season at third doubles for an 8-2
win over the Tigers. In a 5-2 victory over North Carolina
Wesleyan College on Sunday, Egan and Jordan posted a decisive 8-1
triumph at third doubles. He then provided the
match-clinching point with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory
over the Battling Bishops at fourth singles.
Egan has compiled a dual-match singles record of 16-4 this year,
15-4 at the No. 4 slot, and has captured eight of his last 10
outings.
Egan, and his teammates, ranked No. 2 in the nation among Division
III Teams and owners of a 19-3 won-lost ledger, return to action on
May 19 when they battle Kenyon College in the NCAA Quarterfinal
round in Claremont, California.
