Emory Men's Tennis To Compete At ITA National Indoor Championships
(Feb. 16) - The No. 2-ranked Emory University men's tennis team
opens the spring portion of its season this Friday through Sunday
(Feb. 19-21) when it competes at the ITA Division III Indoor
Championships. Of the eight teams competing, seven are ranked
among the nation's top 15 teams in Division III tennis. The
event will be held at the Swanson Indoor Tennis Center in St.
Peter, Minn., and hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.
The Eagles of Head Coach John Browning enter the ITA National
Indoors as the defending champs following last year's win over
Washington University in the title match. It marked the third time
in the nine-year history of the event that Emory had claimed the
top spot.
Other teams in the field include No. 1-ranked and defending
Division III national champion, UC-Santa Cruz, No. 3-ranked
Washington University, No. 8 Johns Hopkins, No. 9 Carnegie Mellon,
No. 12 DePauw, No. 15 Kenyon and No. 25 Gustavus Adolphus.
Emory holds down the No. 2 seed and will meet No. 7 seed DePauw on
Friday starting at 11:30 a.m. (CST).
Play goes on Saturday with the consolation semifinals, semifinals
matches and consolation finals. Action concludes on Sunday at
9:00 a.m. with the championship and third-place matches.
The Eagles were to have opened their campaign on Feb. 12 against
Auburn-Montgomery but inclement weather postponed the match to Feb.
25 at the Woodruff PE Center on the Emory campus.
