Emory Men's Tennis Opens Season At ITA Regional Championships
The Emory University men's tennis team will open its 2009 fall
season this weekend, as the team competes at the Fall Wilson/ ITA
South Atlantic Regional Championship Tournament from Friday,
September 25th, until Sunday, September 27th. The
Bruton-Guerry Tennis Center (outdoor), the Charlotte Guerry Indoor
Tennis Courts (Fowler Center) and the St. Andrew's Sewanee School
courts will be utilized for the event that will feature the top
players from Division III schools in the region.
The singles and doubles champions from this weekend's tournament
advance to the Oct. 15-18 Intercollegiate Tennis Association
National Small College Championships in Mobile, Alabama.
Emory's Chris Goodwin (Rockville, MD) captured the
singles title as a freshman last year and enters the 2009 Regional
as the No. 1 seed. Goodwin also teamed with graduated brother
Michael to bring home the doubles crown. Joining forces with
Goodwin in this weekend's doubles action will be sophomore
Dillon Pottish (Quogue, NY). Pottish enters
the singles action as the No. 4 seed. Senior David
Caplan (Oakton, VA) holds down the No. 8 seed in the
64-player singles field while junior Colin Egan
(Chapel Hill, NC) looks to make another solid run in the Regional
after advancing to the singles final in 2008.
Other schools that will have players competing include: Centre,
Sewanee, North Carolina Wesleyan, Birmingham-Southern, Methodist,
Oglethorpe, Rhodes, Millsaps and Mississippi College.
