Emory Men's Tennis Battles By Kenyon College

Box

The Emory University men’s tennis team enjoyed a successful return to the Woodruff PE Center Wednesday afternoon by topping Kenyon College in a battle of top 10 Division III teams.  The No. 3-ranked Eagles raised their dual record to 4-4 following a 6-3 decision over the No. 6 Lords who slipped to 7-5.

Emory held a 2-1 lead in the match following doubles action as the Eagles’ No. 2 team of Alex Chun and Will Humprheys, along the No. 3 tandem of David Caplan and Chris Redmond, recorded victories.

Emory went up by a 3-1 margin following sophomore Chris Goodwin’s 6-2, 6-2 decision over Tomas Piskacek at No. 2 singles.  Kenyon battled back to knot the contest at 3-3 after it claimed victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.  Sophomore Dillion Pottish, the No. 1-ranked player in the Atlantic South Region, put Emory ahead by a 4-3 margin following a stirring 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Mike Greenberg, the No. 2-ranked player in the Central Region.  Pottish trailed by a 4-1 margin in the third set before rallying to force the tiebreaker where he faced triple match elimination before clawing his way to an 8-6 win.   The Eagles then clinched the match when junior Colin Egan came away with a 7-6, 7-5 outcome over Paul Burgin at No. 5 singles.  Freshman Daniel Weingarten accounted for the Eagles’ other point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kevin Ye at No. 6 singles.

Emory returns to action on Saturday (Mar. 20) when it plays host to No. 11 DePauw University at 3:00 p.m.
