Emory's Pottish & Goodwin Advance To Quarters Of NCAA Singles Championships

Emory University sophomores Dillon Pottish and
Chris Goodwin have advanced to the quarterfinals
of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Singles Championships
after winning a pair of matches on Friday. The Championships
are being held at the Don Hunsinger Courts on the campus of Oberlin
College.
Pottish, the No. 1 seeded player in the 32-player field, defeated
Max Frey of Trinity University, 6-2, 6-3, in his first-round match
before coming away with a second-round win over Mike Mattelson of
Vassar following Mattelson’s retirement after the set
second. Pottish, now 26-7 on the year, will meet Andrew Lee
of Middlebury College on Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. The
winner advances to the semifinals which will be played Saturday
afternoon.
Goodwin, seeded No. 5, opened with a methodical 6-2, 6-2 victory,
against Scott Sundstrom of Luther College in his first match before
battling to a three-set triumph in the second round against Nick
Lebedoff of Williams College, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, boosting his
season record to 23-8. Goodwin will meet Andy Peters of
Middlebury in the quarterfinals.
