Emory Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season
The Emory University men's tennis team begins its spring
schedule on Friday, Feb. 12, when it hosts NAIA power
Auburn-Montgomery. Action at the Woodruff PE Center gets
underway at 2:00 p.m.
Led by 11th-year Head Coach John Browning, the Eagles head into the
spring campaign ranked as the No. 2 Division III team in the
country behind only UC-Santa Cruz.
Browning will have a strong corps of veterans to call upon as well
as a talented crop of newcomers. At the conclusion of the
fall portion of the schedule, Emory had two players ranked among
the top 20 nationally in singles - sophomores Dillon
Pottish (#4), and Chris Goodwin (#6).
In doubles, the duo of Pottish and Goodwin held down the No.
2 spot. In the South Atlantic Region rankings, Pottish (#1)
and Goodwin (#3) were slotted among the top five singles players
while junior Alex Chun (#13), senior David
Caplan (#17) and freshman Dylan Wright
(#20) garnered top-20 recognition.
Pottish enjoyed a productive fall that saw him earned All-America
honors after capturing the singles crown at the ITA South-Atlantic
Regional Championships, defeating Goodwin in the deciding match. He
advanced to the Small College Championships where he recorded a 2-1
mark en route to a fifth-place finish.
Pottish and Goodwin were ITA Regional champions and advanced to
doubles finals at the Small College Championships.
Auburn-Montgomery, eight-time NAIA national champions, figures to
field another tough squad that includes Michael Johnson, who ended
the fall ranked as the No. 6 singles player.
