Emory Men's Tennis Eyes UAA Championships
UAA Men's Tennis Championships Info
The No. 3-ranked Emory University men's tennis team takes to the
road this weekend (Apr. 23-25) when it competes at the University
Athletic Association Championships. Serving as host for this
year's event is Carnegie Mellon University. The championship
will be hosted at two sites - the campus of Carnegie Mellon and
Shady Side Academy. The Club Life in Monroeville, Pa., will be used
in case of inclement weather.
The Eagles of head coach John Browning enter the weekend as the No.
2 seed and will battle the University of Rochester, the No. 7 seed,
on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m. The winner of that match
advances to the semifinals to play either Case Western (# 6 seed)
or Carnegie Mellon (#3) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The title
match is slated for Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Other quarterfinal matches
on Thursday include No. 1 seed Washington University vs. No. 8 New
York University and No. 4 Chicago vs. No. 5 Brandeis.
Emory looks to bring the conference crown back to Atlanta after
seeing a 19-year streak of winning the championship come to an end
last season as Washington University topped the Eagles by a 5-4
margin in the title match. The Bears have another formidable
squad this year and hold down the No. 2 spot in the D-III national
rankings. The teams met earlier this year with Wash U.,
emerging with a 5-4 triumph in the semifinals of the ITA National
Indoor Championships.
In addition to Emory and Wash U., other UAA teams to garner
national rankings include Carnegie Mellon (#7) and the University
of Chicago (#15).
The Eagles stand 11-7 this spring and have won seven of eight
matches against Division III competition. Emory is coming off
a 9-0 win at home against No. 25 Washington & Lee on Tuesday of
this week.
