Emory Men's Tennis Falls To West Florida

The Emory University men’s tennis team, ranked No. 3 in Division III, closed out its participation in the Small College Blue & Gray Invitational Friday afternoon with an 8-1 loss to the University of West Florida.  The loss evened the Eagles’ record at 7-7 while the Argos, ranked No. 7 among Division II programs, upped their slate to 10-7.  Serving as host of the Invitational was Auburn-Montgomery.

Freshman Noah Simonson picked up Emory’s lone point in the match with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Patrick Bateman at No. 5 singles.

Emory finished the Invitational with a mark of 0-3.  On Thursday, the Eagles were topped by Valdosta State, ranked No. 3 in Division II, by an 8-1 margin, and then came out on the short end of a 5-2 verdict to AUM.  Emory doubles accounted for both of the team’s points in that contest with the tandem of sophomore of Chris Goodwin and senior David Caplan prevailing at the No. 1 spot, while senior Chris Jordan and junior Alex Chun were victorious at No. 2.

Emory’s next action takes place on Thursday, April 8, when it hosts the University of the South starting at 3:00 p.m.
