Emory Men's Tennis Tops Wilkes In NCAA Tournament Action

The Emory University men’s tennis team, ranked No. 2 in
Division III, opened NCAA Tournament action with a decisive 6-0
second-round win over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon.
The first through third rounds are being held at Washington &
Lee University in Lexington, Va.
The Eagles did not drop a set en route to recording its eighth
straight win while raising its record to 15-7. Emory breezed
through the doubles portion of the competition with the No. 2 team
of Oliver Lopp and David Caplan highlighting the effort with an
impressive 8-0 triumph over the Colonels’ duo of Clarke
Freeman and Cesar Leon.
Sophomore Chris Goodwin picked up his 20th win of the
year with his 6-1, 6-0 victory against Chris Cozzillo at the No. 2
singles spot giving the Eagles a 4-0 edge. Oliver Lopp and
Colin Egan each picked up victories at the identical time at Nos. 5
and 4, respectively, which closed the contest out. Lopp
finished off Evan Katz by a 6-1, 6-1 score while Egan boosted his
season record to 15-5 after a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Wes
McCollum.
Emory will play No. 25-ranked Washington & Lee (16-8) in the
third round on Sunday starting at noon. The winner will
advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals on May 25 in Oberlin, Ohio.
